Deeba Farhat from Bijbehara town of south Kashmir was not content with the 553rd rank she secured last year prompting her not to join the civil services and prepare again.
Improving on her performance, she is ranked 281st this time around.
“I am not satisfied with my rank and I intend to appear in the exam again,” Deeba had told us in 2015.
Deeba is a working Kashmir Administrative Services (KAS) officer in the state Rural Development Department.
Though she is not entirely satisfied with her ranking but she says she will join the services now.
“I have been preparing for competitive exams for quite a while now. I think I will settle down with what I’m being offered right now,” Deeba told.
She says she will be getting Revenue Services most probably and it was her second preference.
“Besides, I will get the much needed rest,” says Deeba.
SHEEMA NABI QASBA from Srinagar secured 209th rank in the exams.
She is the daughter of former Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation, GN Qasba.
Shéema did her schooling from Presentation Convent and passed matriculation in 2004. She completed her B.A., LL.B. (Honours) from National Law University, Jodhpur and was working with a leading law firm in New Delhi.
She credited her success to hard work and support from her parents. “When we do hard work, then luck also favours. There is no short cut to hard work,” she said.
SHAKEEL AHMED GANIE and DR BASHARAT QAYOOM from central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district also qualified the prestigious civil services examination the results of which were declared on Tuesday.
Shakeel, a resident of Baroosa Ganderbal, secured 273rd place while Dr Basharat Qayoom from Satrina Kangan managed 578th rank.
The delighted duo Shakeel and Basharat expressed their feelings and shared the experience of qualifying the coveted test.
Talking to us, both Shakeel and Basharat credited family support for their success.
“By the grace of Almighty Allah I have made it to civil services. My parents and family members were pillars of strength during my preparation. My brother Dr Rayees constantly encouraged me to appear in this exam. My friends also supported me,” Shakeel said.
“I am very happy. I would say that it is not something difficult provided one should have patience and great dedication. It is a long process and one needs strong will power. I am blessed that I have everything whether it is family support or will power,” he told .
Shakeel has done MBA and was working as Assistant Manager in Jammu and Kashmir Grameen Bank. However, he left the job few years ago and started preparing for civil services examination.
Shakeel’s brother, Dr Rayees Ahmed said: “I have no words to describe my happiness. The hard work, sheer determination, dedication and sincerity have made him so special in our life.”
Coming from Gujjar community, Dr Basharat Qayoom did his schooling from Sindh valley school Kangan and passed 12th exams from higher Secondary School Kangan.
“My dream has come true. The civil services examinations are all about clear understanding of the methods and patterns. I didn’t join any formal coaching classes for the preparations,” Basharat told .
“I passed CET in 2005 and then in 2010 also got selected for PG. After PG I started preparing for civil services as I had an urge right from my childhood to do something big in life,” he said.
According to Basharat, cracking civil services examination is not a difficult task. “But what one needs is perseverance and hard work. It pays off,” he said.
DR RUVEDA SALAM has secured 764th rank. Ruveda from Kupwara district made history when she became the first woman from the Kashmir Valley to qualify in the Union Public Service Commission examination in 2013. She did her MBBS from the Government Medical College in Srinagar. Currently she serves as an Assistant Commissioner of Police in Chennai. She has earlier passed the UPSC exam twice.
She was selected to the Indian Police Service cadre. She went for training to Hyderabad and joined the IPS cadre in Tamil Nadu. She was posted as an Assistant Commissioner of Police in Chennai.
DR. SAFDAR ALI BALKHANG managed 980th rank. Safdar did his schooling from Moravian Mission School Leh while he passed his class 12th examination from Chandigarh.
He said he decided to drop a year after passing 12th and prepared for MBBS instead. The trick worked and he qualified it in the first attempt. After doing MBBS from GMC Srinagar, Safdar did house job in Safdarjung Hospital New Delhi.
Then he started preparing and cleared UPSC in second attempt. He credited his success to hard work.
“If you set a goal in your life and work hard for that then nothing will be impossible,” he said.
Vinay Kumar Langeh of Bahu Fort, Jammu qualified the exams, securing 477th rank. Bilawal Shafiq Choudhary from Rajouri also cleared the exams, managing 1019th rank. Syed Junaid Aadil of Srinagar bagged 1069th rank.
